After only 5 years of playing Badminton competitively, Eva Hursthouse, a 14-year-old student at Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has been chosen to represent Yorkshire in the under 16s category.
Eva trains at Pontefract Squash club between 2-5 times a week and all sessions are an hour and a half long. Training sessions for Yorkshire are 2 hours long.
The selection process to be chosen to represent Yorkshire was a tough one. Individuals were put forward for trials in York where they trained for over 6 hours. Coaches and team managers then decided who made the cut.
Eva, who aspires to either train as an architect or a sports psychologist when she leaves school said: “I really enjoy being part of competitive sport that allows me to also spend time with my friends. I feel privileged to be able to represent my home county in my chosen sport. I have worked really hard with lots of training and commitment so to be chosen is a huge achievement for me.”
Eva also hopes to continue with badminton to see how far she can go with the sport.
