Subject: Physical Education (PE)

The aim of PE is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. We teach children about the importance of fair play, honest competition and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators. Children take part in games, gymnastic movement, dance and athletic activities both indoors and outdoors. Children can take part in after-school clubs and have the opportunity to compete against other schools. The children have the opportunity to take part in a residential trip with a focus on outdoor activities and team-building skills. Children have swimming lessons in Year 5 at the local swimming pool and catch up sessions are offered to children in Year 6 so that all children have the opportunity to leave Key Stage 2 being able to swim.

PE is key to developing healthy lifestyles in young people, and at De Lacy, we provide a wide array of opportunities for sports and other physical activities outside normal curriculum time. The school has many links with local clubs and sporting professionals who visit school and organise workshops to develop sport skills further. As part of the Pontefract Academies Trust, children take part in both inter school and external competitions each half term.
